The Korean Association of Retired Persons (KARP, President Myong Yong Juch) announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) on December 8 (local time) to strengthen collaboration on senior rights protection and welfare enhancement between the two countries.
President Juch visited CARP’s headquarters on Jefferson Avenue in Toronto, where he met with CARP President Anthony J. Quinn, Board Chair Moses Znaimer, and other senior officials. During the meeting, the two organizations signed an MOU committing to cooperation and exchanged views on key issues such as global population aging, senior human rights, ageism, social isolation, and intergenerational cohesion.
This agreement marks the first formal partnership between the leading non-profit, non-governmental senior organizations of Korea and Canada. It is expected to serve as a significant foundation for sharing policy insights and strengthening joint responses to aging-related challenges faced by both countries.
Under the MOU, the two organizations agreed to collaborate in the following areas:
Strengthening the rights and interests of senior citizens in both countries
Joint research and policy cooperation on global aging issues
Expanding information, expertise, and personnel exchanges
Combating age-based discrimination (ageism) and promoting intergenerational integration
Co-hosting international forums, conferences, and collaborative projects
Conducting regular reciprocal visits and building a cooperative network

President Juch remarked, “Population aging is a global challenge that no single country can tackle alone. Our cooperation with Canada will mark an important milestone in protecting the rights of Korean seniors, expanding social participation, and strengthening our international voice.”
plans to use this partnership as a springboard to broaden its international engagement and reinforce global senior networks, contributing to long-term solutions for aging societies. Founded in 1996 in New York, KARP is a UN ECOSOC Special Consultative NGO that has led efforts in Korea for more than 25 years in senior policy, pension reform, and intergenerational integration.
